Comment:

Avast, ye swabs! A tribute to everybody's favorite scaliwags of the sea. I actually started this mix a year ago, long before I'd ever heard of "Pirates of the Caribbean", and then finally got around to finishing it this Christmas at the request of my brother, naming it after his favorite line from "Pirates". Klaus Badelt's score for "Pirates" was so jaunty and heroic, I really had no other choice but to start out with it... It goes heavy on the hard sea shanties for a bit, then gets a bit silly with the Aquabats and the Arrogant Worms, moves into '80s new wave and '90s indie, starts to round things up with some genuine shanties ("Barrett's Privateers" is the best sea shanty ever!) and finally closes with Marianne Faithfull's take on "Pirate Jenny" from The Threepenny Opera and "I Am A Pirate King" from The Pirates of Penzance! Scurvy!

This is great. A friend and I challenged one another on a recent road trip to come up with sea shanties or songs about pirates. This would have been the perfect mix to have along for the ride!

You blaggard! Beat me to it by around 2 months, I would say. I've been working on a similar mix for some time now. Not sure that mine would have been up to this standard however. Good job.

awesome mix. The Aquabats song is always appropriate for piracy.

I was expecting to see a collection of songs played by pirate radio stations, but this is even better! Worth walking the plank for.

This looks really good! I just can't believe how many good PIRATE mixes have been posted here!

To name just a few:

Pirates and Ninjas and Robots, Oh, My!,

The pirates stole our song ,

We're Supposed to Sing about Piratey Things! ,(actually this one's not
mostly about pirates, but is definitely piratey in spirit)

A Pirate's Life for Me ,

To-Day's Pyrate: Vol. 1
,

heave away me hearteys ,

But Where Have All the Songs Gone?

Very awesome. You could do well with something off 3 Inches of Blood's latest release and maybe something by The Decemberists, but the inclusion of Relient K's version of "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" more than makes up for it. And any mix with Buckethead on it wins.
