31. Minimum Wage 32. Letterbox 33. Whistling In The Dark 34. They Might Be Giants 35. Road Movie To Berlin. Well, it had been five years since I made my last TMBG compilations (for my girlfriend at the time), so it was high time I replaced the old ones with a new one. A friend recently asked me for a definitive retrospective, which resulted in this new three disc "box set" spanning nearly 20 years. All the big singles are included (some grudgingly). Minor singles only made it if I deemed them worthy enough (bye bye "(She Was A) Hotel Detective"!). The rest are subjective favorites and songs I feel are important to the TMBG ouevre. (No solo stuff this time around.) What's remarkable is how little my choices have changed in five years. I also tried to correct some grievous errors made by the compilers of that Rhino two disc retrospective. (No "Dead"? You've got to be kidding me.) Ironically, I hit "Flood" pretty hard here, even though it's one of my lesser favorite TMBG albums. I'll delete the original two compilations whenever this stupid server allows me to do so.

I think you showed remarkable restraint in not beginning with Ana Ng.

Well, I've simply arranged every song in chronological order, so...

Perfect song quote for a TMBG best of - one of my favorites from their whole catalog. I was really into the first few records, saw them live many times, and then kind of drifted away from the Johns. They haven't made an album that kicked my butt like the first three, but they always have at least a few killer songs and they are always moving forward which is a plus. I think this is going to make me pull out some of their albums and revisit them. Great song selections.

Thanks TIP! I actually think their fourth album--"Apollo 18"--is one of their absolute best (my second favorite). They did dip a bit after that but I loved 1996's "Factory Showroom" and this new one is pretty damn impressive as well.

Always a big fan of TMBG -- great in concert, fun to listen to. Hard to believe they've been around for nearly 20 years. "Where Your Eyes Don't Go" is my favorite, so glad to see you included it. This is a good series.

Really nice series of mixes you have here - I saw TMBG before I actually started to listen to them properly, and they were great fun live; I liked them instantly. I also love how Dial A Song is still going strong! :) Nice cover too.

I have both Flood and The Rhino 2-disc compilation so I'm glad that Dead, We Want a Rock and Road Movie to Berlin are here. They along with Birdhouse in your Soul and Particle Man are my favourites from that album.

Pity about the annoying Number Three though...

I love this mix.
