Comment:
As promised, my fave tracks by the Monkees from 1967-1969. Although I was disappointed when Peter left the band, I have to admit that the two albums following his departure were loaded with great songs (particularly because Mike was allowed free rein). This mix is mostly Mike and Mickey, with a few good Davy tunes thrown in for good measure. Peter also has a nice solo on Shades of Gray (a track that I mostly associate with the early years, but didn't flow well with the other tracks on volume one).
Feedback:
Very nice. I've been playing my single cd mix of my fave Monkee tunes and it sounds fresh and timely even today.
Yes, I can dig it! Love them Monkees (except for maybe Davy).
I've just purchased The Definitive Monkees..a 60 track bonanza of classics & rarities...good stuff!
another nice one
another interesting Monkee Mix...."goin' down" as a compliment to the previous mix : )
Good one.
More fine Monkee business. Nice to see the Porpoise Song here. I understand now why it didn't appear on your first mix, since it was recorded later in their career. Love the witness protection cover too! ;)
yep, yep, yep - undeniable. it's always good to see the unfairly-maligned Monkees get some respect.
keep 'em comin', Deanna. Great stuff
Good stuff!
Great, once again. I, like everyone else, am partial to "Porpoise Song", as well as "Auntie's Municipal Court", "Tapioca Tundra", "Randy Scouse Git", "Sunny Girlfriend", "Star Collector", "I'll Be Back Upon My Feet" and "Goin' Down." I have to admit, though, that "Shades of Gray" has always kind of rubbed me the wrong way, primarily because Peter's singing is so flat (and trust me, I like Peter as much as the next Monkee, unless, of course, that Monkee is Mike).
Considering that they rarely let Peter sing anything (I admit he's not very talented in the vocals department), I still prefer Shades of Gray to say, Auntie Grizelda.
After all these years, we Monkee fans are finally coming out of the closet, one by one. I consider Head to be as crucial a Summer of Love-era document as Sgt. Pepper, SF Sorrow, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Odessey & Oracle, and Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. Ok, maybe not quite (it's really only half an album once you skip the movie snippets), but damn close.
Awesome.
Cool - I was in the car the other day and the Monkees came on the radio, and, though I'd never thought I liked them much, I found myself thinking, heyyyyyy, this isn't bad! And, because of your mixes here, I definitely want to do them a bit more listening justice now! :)
