Comment:
This is dub from 'white'-non jamaican artists playing dub tracks or have tracks being remixed in a true dub fashion. You might notice Adrian Sherwood's heavy presence all over the comp (1 track and the dub treatments of ADF/Primal Scream/Placebo tracks). This is a compilation made in April 2004.It's a showcase of how DUB originally conceived in Jamaica is everywhere in modern music even outside reggae or electronica (i.e. alt.rockers Placebo or film music composer A.Badalamenti).
The title is inspired from The Clash's track "(White man) in Hammersmith Palais" and refers to the incident where Joe Strummer (R.I.P.) was the only white man in the audience during a reggae concert in the late 70's at the Hammersmith Palais .
Note: The genre "reggae" is a bit misleading but it's closer to dub than anything else.
Feedback:
this looks fairly intriguing.
Looks good. I hadn't heard the Adrian Sherwood track "Hari Up Hari" but I know the stuff he's done with Dub Syndicate and Tackhead.
Nice one.
dub be good to me, cool
Don't know how I missed this one, dub being my fav. musical genre. Does seem odd that there isn't a dub category doesn't it! Love this mix if you care to trade I'm up for it!
