Comment:

Ah, Bolywood... The music from 1970's Hindi films is at once sublime and filled with 70's kitchy goodness. I put together of the best songs I have in my collection from the 70's movies. Considering India churns out about 8 times as many movies as Hollywood does in any given year, I can't claim to have heard but a fraction of the era's music. Nonetheless, I think this comp really sums up what I love so much about the music. From 70's bass lines so funky they would fit right in on the Superfly soundtrack, to folky melodies that blend traditional elements with cinematic soundscapes, Bollywood sounds for hipsters abound. Title of film each song is from appears in ().
Cover includes several images of actual movie posters from some of the films featured here. Disc one of two.

I enjoyed the David Byrne compilation, but, as you say, there is so much Bollywood music that for me it is impossible to go through. This would be an interesting listen.

Just got this one in the mail! Very nice -- thanks, Laura! This is just the tip of the iceberg -- Bollywood churns out movies and music like you wouldn't believe, and the 70s were really a golden age for both.
