Comment:

The story you might know, and which I swear is true, is this: Joy Divison loses their lead singer and become New Order, whose lead singer is also in a band with the guitar guy from the Smiths, whose bleaty lead singer covers a song by the Jam, whose lead singer later is remixed by the folks from Portishead, who sample Issac Hayes on their debut album, not only that, but Issac singing a song by Burt Bacharach, who recently collaborated with Elvis Costello, a songwriter once covered by Everything But the Girl, who once loaned their lead singer to Massive Attack, who sample the Cure on their latest album, the same Cure whose old guitarist recently joined the frontmen from Led Zeppelin on a tour, and whose old songs were rampantly sampled by the Beasties on their first album, but who had their second album produced by the same guys who helped Beck, who made great use of a Bob Dylan sample, who wrote songs everyone covers, including Dave Matthews, who had a guest spot sung on their latest by Alanis (who I did not want to represent on this mix really) but who used the bassist and guitarist from the Chili Peppers to back her on one angry song, the same guitarist who was twice a member of Jane's Addiction, who did a nice cover of the Velvet Underground, whose lead singer spent considerable time popping up on huge TV screens to duet with U2 during live versions of one of his songs, the same U2 who made great albums produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, Lanois, who also wrote and produced songs for Emmylou Harris, one of which was an outstanding cover of a Jimi Hendrix song. I guess that sums it up.
