Comment:

Kim Fowley is the clown prince of rock and roll. Producer, songwriter, promoter, performer--he's had connections with many significant acts over the course of his 45-year career. His own performances are loose, wild, and supremely fun. I've been a fan ever since I got a cassette copy of his Outrageous album. Songs from that mondo freakout form the backbone of this collection. I was hoping that last year's Impossible But True, The Kim Fowley Story would be the much-deserved greatest-hits collection, but it concentrates on his productions instead of his performances. This Universal Teenager mix contains my favorite Fowley performances from 1965 to 1978. Enjoy the trip.

As always, very nice. And an excellent cover to boot. Some great selections. For years the only song I knew by him was the Trip from a Pebbles comp, but after buying the horrifically bad VENUS and the RAZORBLADES album from a Musicland cut-out rack in the early 80's I became more aware of his name and then I kept coming across stories about the guy. He is so hit and miss as an artist, but he's always interesting. If there's not already a Kim Fowley tribute disc in the works somebody should start putting one together. He covers such a wide range of sounds that almost any band could fit in. And if you haven't read them yet, I highly recomend the two part feature on Kim from Kicks magazine. -Dale

Sadly, I'm pretty unfamiliar with Mr. Fowley's work, so this might be a good place to start. Unfortunately I'm unable to see the cover, but hopefully AOTM will have the ability to show images soon.

I commented on this before, too, but apparently it didn't make the server switch... Mr. Saaf, when you have the chance, I'd love to trade for this.
