Comment:
Been listening to this mix for a couple of weeks now, thinking there was something I had to change, but no. Works for subway riding and dinner parties alike (at least in my neck of the woods). I just finished one of those "death march" production projects. In my scant spare time while waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop, I worked on this. Mostly country or alt.country with some "south american country" and a little soul thrown in. We had an intern from Serbia who fell madly, passionately in love with Brasilian music, so I sent her off with as much as I could find in my collection - hence that influence. Highlight include the Krauss-Taylor duet which is truly tearjerking and beautiful; the James Brown - that is one killer re-release no soul person should be without; the Dave Alvin cut speaks specificially of my home/growing up world of South East Los Angeles - gets to me every time ... plus it's really a duet with Greg Leisz. The Shuggie Otis provided the title, at least I think that's what he sings. And I love love love this Steve Earle records. I listened to it about five times straight ... got me thinking in a molotov mode ... metaphorically speaking.Feedback:
(mostly) so far over my head it hurts.
Beautiful! Seems it has been some time since a MV:RS posting.., could be my imagination, (..runnin' away with me...).....this has got me thinking about cocktails...literally speaking.
There's a lot here I don't know, but the whole thing looks terrific!
Excellent as ever!
very awesome - good to see you back in action.
you're damn right about that James Brown track
Good to have you back mixing! And a nice one as usual. You know I like all that Brazilian! and I just saw Dave Alvin a couple of weeks ago - great live act (though I still miss the Blasters). Viva la revolution (especially here at home)
lovely stuff, Sally. We have to trade again sometime soon hopefully
great looking mix!
Looks really sweet.
This is incredibly good! Quite impressive.
Looks great! I really like Dave Alvin, too. Got to see him over the summer and he did a terrific show.
I love this one. The opener in particular looks wonderful. I love Gilberto Gil.
Very nice. Hmmm, maybe this one should go on the pile too.
I'm afraid that until a few hours ago, I was a total ignoramus with regards to most of these guys. I've done a bit of research now and that (plus the endorsements below) make me want to know more. If you can be bothered, therefore . . . . . . .
Really nice stuff here...
I love the Steve Earle track but I know little of this-How about a trade?
Very cool. Love the opener and closer especially.
Excellent, as ever, Sally Anne. Good to see you back making mixes.
After listening to this repeatly for a few days, the only complaint is my tears are watering down my beer! Terrific mix!
Wow. That's some praise ... and this isn't even one of my sad mixes!
Sally Anne, thanks. Received and it has been constant listening this week. Very educational and chilled. Love the way that you list the credits and references (I should do the same).
Oh, Sally you are spoiling us! This looks bloody brilliant. GG & CV, Mazzy, Os Mutantes, James Brown, Boz & Shuggie to name but a few. Tk2 intruiges me..
Brazilian C&W? That is RIGHT up my alley.
This looks great! I love all of this AND now I finally know what Shuggie Otis was saying.
I see a cool laidback groove here
