Comment:
Scandinavian (primarily Swedish and Finnish) neo-folk. The music typically has a variety of drums set over a layer of drones, instruments old and new, and female (and occasionally male) vocalists. These women can sing like angels or wail like banshees. Some tracks have a trip-hop feel to them, for example track 7, which is a song by the Medieval mystic Hildegarde von Bingen. This music has real vitality and excites me more than anything else I've heard recently. Titles are given in English when available. More info about the artists can be found at the all-music guide and Northside Records who distribute the albums these tracks are taken from. Meant to be listened to as one long piece--track divisions are a mere formality.Feedback:
Looks interesting. Foreign to my ears, so I won't pretend to know any of these artists, but I wouldn't mind trading for this to hear some unknown sounds. Let me know if you're interested.
Jaa-SSni. Ulkomuoto Erinomainen, Tikari!
I know nothing! However, looks interesting and I'm on my way to Northside records now to find out more.
Definitely off the beaten track. Good liner notes, and especially, good work typing all those sćĉĕŋŦş.
nice idea! i think out of these i've only heard garmarna but i generally like traditional finnish/northern european music so the rest must be good...can't wait to see subsequent discs!
well I've Dj at concert with both Hedningarna (more than 10 years ago)
and Garmarna (at least 7 years ago) and I got to admit, they are very very difficult to job with and I'm not quite sure I really like their folkyfreaky music either but I think this is a really great way to let people know about it, sometimes you can describe it like a weird samish version of pogues with ununderstandebale lyrics ;)

Very interesting mix. I will have to check this out. Thanks for the link.
