Comment:
Listen. Here is a collection of songs that tell great stories - so action-packed and suspenseful that you can easily imagine the movie that could go along with it. There's death and disaster in many of these songs. Some people meet the devil. Others meet their maker as a result of being shot, freezing, drowning, having car accidents, or having their throat cut. A few songs, such as the tracks of Tim O'Brien and Lyle Lovett, provide comical relief.Feedback:
Great idea, Claude, and well executed. I'd love to hear 15! 17 is one of my fav. tunes -- I've got about 4 versions of it! : )
Great stuff! I love these kinds of songs.
superb
Terrific theme and execution!
Terrific theme and execution!
Oh this is great fun - whatta ride. BTW, Edward, I have #15, and man oh man, can Robert Mitchum ever NOT sing!
Great collection of story tellin' songs. Especially like the Del McCoury & Tom Waits tunes.
Great idea, great mix. I read yr comments first and thought 'ok 'Ode to Billie Joe' has to be there, right?' Job done.
Stories need to be told. Good one lanhamyodel.
Nice collection of stories. Seems like there are a lot more good ones out there. For vol. 2 : Tom Russell - Gallo de Cielo; Dylan - Rosemary & the King of Hearts; Stagger Lee (Stago-lee) which lots of people have covered; Grateful Dead/Bob Weir's 2 western songs - Mexicali Blues & Jackstraw (they often did El Paso, too); Springsteen - State Trooper.
wait, is that tim o'brien as in the author ("the things they carried"), or some other tim o'brien i don't know about. excellent idea for a mix. you've a LOT of great stuff here.
Or Springsteen's "Highway Patrolman," or the Johnny Cash version thereof.
