The fact of the matter is that "mainstream music" -- the kind of music that most people apparently listen to -- is garbage (e.g., million-selling Ashlee Simpson). But if the masses feel the need to go out and buy shitty pop music, then there's not too much you can do to stop them. But luckily for the segment of the population that has any musical taste whatsoever, tons of great music continues to be made. Just don't expect to hear it on radio or TV. Or find it on my mix CDs.

i almost want to shoot myself for liking three of those songs. but then i remember that i don't know any of the rest of them at all, and it makes me feel much better. i think "good music" has gone away. maybe people should stop making music until it comes back.

I agree that most of the songs are crap, but the John Mayer and Kanye West CD's were really good for the industry. Mayer's is the definition of what "singer/songwriter" should be, while West's is THE BEST Hip-Hop album in a many year.
