Comment:

Made for fellow AOTM'r Casetta. Sort of a travel theme - I start out in Australia (where I've just immigrated to), then move on to New Zealand (and back to oz) at the end of side 1. Side 2 starts out in Scotland, then moves on to England, then crosses over to San Francisco, then NYC and finally finishes off in Boston, when I've spent my entire life up to my move 6 months ago. A few notes - the Warren/John Ellis song is a cover of an old country song, and it comes off the "Where Joy Kills Sorrow" cd released a few yrs back featuring all Australian artists. The Swingers song (from the late 70s/early 80s) is currently being used in a KMART Australia ad.

For those who don't know what a quokka is - it's a small marsupial found only on Rottnest Island, off the coast of Western Australia. They were mistakenly called rats when they were first discovered by the Dutch, on Rottnest ("Rats nest" in Dutch) many moons ago, but in fact, they are related to kangaroos.

Wow, I must say I have just finished listening to this mix without looking at the sleeve notes for artist info. I knew of some of the artist and it was a surprise to hear them come on. What blew my mind was how tight and smooth this mix flows. Truly commendable. Was it a pun to include the Buffalo Tom cover of The Jam-"Going Underground" in ref to Australia as a double meaning?

Hmmm, actually no - I included it because I think it's a good song, (and also because I just received the cd for x-mas) not for any hidden meaning. But maybe in my mind I did it subconsciously, who knows?

Yup, of course I've seen a quokka! There's tons of them on Rotto. And they really do look like rats, although rats that can stand up.

I'm really impressed. I'm moving to Scotland in a few months, any advice for bands to get into up north? Either way, I really do feel like I've been around the worl with this mix, very diverse, really good.
