Comment:
While I'm a huge jazz fan, I am by no means an academic listener, with facts, dates and other bits of minutia at the ready to stump fellow enthusiasts. (Where Bop ends and Hard Bop begins, for example, is still a mystery to me!) I like what I like and my collection is an assortment of many styles from many periods. A good chunk of it, however, is comprised of music from the 40s and 50s, when Bop reigned supreme. This isn't a definitive collection, and it's obviously not chronological (bebop began in the early 40s, and I don't have many of those earlier recordings), but I think it's a solid primer, with most of the major players accounted for. A second installment is in the works.Feedback:
Very nice. I think Hard Bop is where I really got interested in jazz. Of course I went into the various directions from that starting point. Great selections here.
I've been (ever so) slowly working on a bob mix but you beat me to the punch. This looks great.
I've been recently getting into jazz. Though my only exposer has been Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. I'll have to hunt down the tracks on this mix, as you said, it's a solid primer.
nice stuff once again. I love the first four especially.
great, like that bop
Very cool, and like you say, looks like an extremely solid primer. Like the Davis and Powell a lot.
Fantastic. Really, really great.
Looks like a great introduction.
