Uh...there are some fine songs on here. A lot, actually. Almost every one. But calling The Smiths punk, if that is indeed what you're doing, is kind of...insane. I mean, disregarding the whole "oh this band is punk and this one isn't" squibbling that has been going on for years, The Smiths aren't punk for the simple reason that they hardly even ROCK, which I think is at least a necessary stepping stone to being a punk. I just don't see what association they have with that "genre" at all. Same with The Pixies, Billy Bragg, and The Cure. They're all fantastic artists, but punks? That's news to me. But forget all that. This is a perfect mix to give to someone who likes MTV bands. Not that there's anything wrong with MTV bands, if that's what you're in to. But they can certainly gain some "cred" with music snobs by listening to Minutemen and Husker Du. And anyway, like I said, great batch of songs
