Photo: "Another World Is Possible - Stop Consuming / Complaining"

The image is a random photo I found online but I can't remember where. It's pretty striking and political but also politically ambiguous which works well with the music. It's all open to interpretation whether the message is political or not.

Mix created: 2/22/05

A lot of tracks that I've used many times before but that's because they're sooo awesome! Especially, the first few tracks are songs I've used on mixes from like 2 years ago. There's a middle section with classic punk rock bands, which is cool. The latter half is modern bands with that classic (post) punk sound. All these tracks are some of my favorites and are on here because I wanted to impress the mixee with all these great sounds. It came out quite well, I'd say. The B&S track at the end I was little hesitant to put on here but it is a swinging, catchy as fuck number. It's a good song and it's a whimsical number to end the mix with. I love Bloc Party so much right now, this track is great. I've been listening to their new album nonstop and it's one of my favorite's of the year already. The Monochrome Set track is from my beloved copy of Rough Trade's Indie Pop compilation that's a minor blessing to music nerds everywhere. There's always so much to dig into on those comps! I love em'! I also wanted these tracks to have a political undercurrent to them be it political, sexual, or otherwise. I think most of them could be interpreted in that manner. Issues covered include gender equity, consumerism, nuclear weapons, warfare, sexual politics, and personal politics. That's my interpretation anyway but at least the song names sound politically charged. As punk bands most of the music would be political, anyhow. My mix is called the Politics of Dancing after all, which I wanted to put rock songs you could dance to but that also had thought provoking lyrics. Okay, any feedback would be appreciated.

Great. Everytime someone types more than two lines in AOTM you know you're seeing something special. The cover picture too. The message hit me and made me remove Keira Knightley from my wallpaper to set it.

Muchas gracias! I see you're from Mexico, right? That's awesome. I'm a Chicana in Florida and I totally embrace my Mexican roots. You can tell I'm quite politicized from this mix too. Yeah, you can't escape politics in this world. Thanks again for the comment... it made my day already and it's only 1AM here! The image is very powerful and I knew I had to keep it when I saw it. I'll check out your mixes later. Now, I need some sleep! Heh.

great photo, nice mix! well, I only know about half the songs on it but they're all good. Esp. like that you've got Disco Infiltrator on there -- one of my faves at the moment.
