Comment:
Part II of my three-set Coltrane mix. The attempt here was to show Coltrane in a few different contexts, playing the music of others. A lot of Coltrane's choices for `covers' (Greensleeves, Inch Worm, My Favourite Things) were interesting and, at times, a bit naif, especially in light of his own compositional and improvisational daring. He often did interesting things WITH the material, but his choices were still often questionable. So I tried to steer clear of tunes I didn't much care for, no matter their interesting handling. That said, 10 & 12 are, yes, a bit sentimental, but they're beautiful and elegant, too. I'd even go so far as to call them little romantic masterpieces.Feedback:
Part II looks great.
Lovely.
nice work, once again
Take the Coltrane is proof positive that Ellington is in the top 3 songwriters of the 20th Century, but I can't argue with any of these picks. I own all the records because I have to. Ever listen to the Coltrane-Cecil Taylor record Hard Drivin' Jazz?
More really, really wonderful, essential, unbeatable stuff. Fantastic.
Lovely.
Excellent again...as the 12v'er says below.
very cool.
Fantastic.
