Comment:

31. Les Cooper "Wahoo"
32. the Saxons "Camel Walk"
33. Rockateens "Woo Hoo"
34. Jules Blattner "One More Time"

I call them "semi-instrumentals, but maybe someone else has a better name for them?

I'm talking about ones where the band has a catchy riff they want to play a few times, but no lyrics (and maybe no singer), so they just break it up with a shout or a nonsense phrase - "Tequila" being the archetypal example.

A lot of these groups probably never came up with more than the one hook -- and you can tell that in some cases after thinking up one word to shout they were out of ideas for names for themselves, so you get, for instance the Groovers singing "Groovy" or the Greasers singing "Greasy" . . .

Ths thing is that although the shout/break may be pretty random (why not shout "Zebra" to the tune of "Tequila" or vice versa?), that's what locks the tune into your head & can't be separated from it ever afterwards.

Crude stuff, but I love it anyway. Sean Lally, at least, knows what I'm talking about, as I swiped several of these from his mixes . . . thanks, pal!

Wow, looks interesting. I think I may only know "Tequila", although there's a chance that I've heard other things from this at Lally's place or on one of his mixes... :-)

THis mix is something to shout about. No need to write lyrics when one word will suffice. Cool cover too. The guy in the middle looks kind of familiar ;)

this too is an excellent mix, & what a great idea, i've made a few all instrumental mixes similar in the past & always had the dillema of whether to 'cheat' or not with a one or two words, but it did'nt occur to me to make a mix of them. top marks.
