Comment:

Ellington . paired down. There's some debate about the merits of Ellington as a piano player (vs. Ellington's genius as a composer and bandleader), but I think this mix should put doubts to rest. Granted, Ellington wasn't a showman at the piano, and he might not have had the same facility as a Tatum or an Oscar Peterson, but he had a style that was uniquely his: economical and direct. This mix eschews any setting above a quartet, as I wanted this to be as much about Ellington the pianist as possible. // (I'm looking for other "intimate Ellington" performances you might have on CD. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated and rewarded in kind.)

This looks really interesting to me. I'm not overly familiar with the Duke (and what I am familiar with are his bigger-band recordings), but I would bet that I'd like his paired-down material much more than the larger productions.

This looks like some good times. My appreciation of Jazz rarely extends past WWII, but Ellington's ghostly later material is certainly worthy of mixing...

Great mix! Money Jungle is my favorite too, but I think Piano Reflections is his most underrated album.

For a guy who supposedly wrote over 2,000 tunes, then it must have been pretty difficult for you to narrow it down some. Great work, as usual, Edward.

On the genius scale, Duke Ellington is right up there with Beethoven. That's my unscholarly opinion. Fleurette Africaine, The Mooche, and Caravan blow me away like almost nothing else in this world.
