Comment:

"THE FOOL DOTH THINK HE IS WISE, BUT THE WISE MAN KNOWS HIMSELF TO BE A FOOL." - Wm. Shakespeare, (bien sur)
I've been meaning to post this Fools mix (now one of three or four) since I started at AotM. Today, I finally had the time ... but that's because I have a hangover and can't actually DO any responsible kind of work. I broke my own rules by having Aretha appear twice AND having "Chain of Fools" appear twice, but she's that good, and the song's that good. Frisell does an interesting job, but then, when does he not? All around excellence here ... fools, for love especially, are a universal, are they not? And for some of us more than others. I'm the first to raise my hand. Trenet leads off because the French are among my favorite fools in general ... they make it seem like an art form rather than the crimes against humanity these fools in the USA admistration do ... both Franklin picks are classic, especially the earlier one. She's more in her Dinah Washington mode here ... angry in a slinky black dress with bangles and a lit cigarette planning revenge ... the Asleep at the Wheel is from a record that has been one of my faves since it was released ... Charles Brown is incomparable, as always ... and Webb Pierce does that somehow solipsistic sad and silly at the same time ... the redneck foolishness and proud to wear the scars? Forgive me ... parts of my brain must still be pickled. Enjoy the tricks of the day!

Great picks. Charles Brown's "Get Yourself Another Fool would have worked well here too. Happy All Fools Day!!!!

C'est un poisson d'avril! Tres rigolo.

La chanson "Runnin' Out of Fools" - j'ai une version par Mlle Neko Case - peut etre c'est un "cover" d'Aretha? Je ne le savais pas.

Nice mix. Since you're making a few more "fools mixes," you could use "Words of a Fool" by Love And Rockets. It wouldn't have matched up well to these songs, though. Maybe next time.
