I've been working on this for at least a week. It started as a journey through Radio rock throughout the ages - it had some newer stuff on there, kind of College radio 80s hits. But that didn't really work, and then midweek I had a huge '60s rock garage nuggets-psych british invasion' phase.. so that made up most of the middle of the album. And yesterday/today I've been listening to some older rock n roll stuff because a friend wants a 50s themed mix for a party. Seems like I'm going to use lots of actual stuff, but then some retro-sounding blues/rock stuff - like the beatles covers etcetc. Anyway, this all means that it's incredibly fragmented: but it works, I assure you.
