it's night along the shoreline again, just getting darker and darker, til the sun bursts at the horizion with the first guitar rift rhea's obsession strikes. maybe the progress gets a little too sunshiny til we curl up with ms. lavelle there at the end, but really. the segues on this mix are just ridiculously great and have to be heard. i started putting this together in my head while standing at the bar of a ferry moving away from door county--and found myself i wanting to be on a bigger boat moving further away toward something.... bigger. it seemed to me that in old times, passages in life were marked by these tremendous, non-refundable (non-returnable!) journeys across large bodies of water--if you made it to the other shore, you might be doing it as someone with no connection to who you once were. at the time this seemed appealing. at times, it still does. so there's a lot of death and paganism to boot, here, this being the soundtrack to my imaginary journey across the great waters.
