tears for fears was my favorite band, growing up. here, i wanted to convey a sense of how it felt to fall asleep listening to their quieter, their more mysterious material when i was in my mid-teens. naturally, i limited myself to songs that would have been around at that point, the incredibly brief selection from "raoul and the kings of spain" being the only exception. this mix as a whole only works so well for me. that long dramatic crossfade between the b-side "tears roll down" and the a-side "laid so low" is a glorious failure, maybe that just casts a shadow over the whole attempt. maybe i should stop messing around with material that is solid in its own right, before my fancy crossfades and wacky backwards antics? maybe you can't go back. there's a good deal of material on here used between tracks i can't coherently list, bits and flashes taken "big chair" era remixes that have been manipulated in odd ways, stuff so obscure i'm not sure i could figure out were it came from if i tried. really, i should have kept better notes.
