In memory of Monica Z
Comment:
This mix is made with great sadness, since I made it because of Monica's tragic death Thursday 12th of May 2005. She lived not far from me in an appartment in the central parts of Stockholm. She died in a fire in her home, without being able to escape since her legs were paralysed due to an illness.Monica was born in September 1937, and her name was Monica Nilsson. In my opinion and in many others opinion, she was the greatest Swedish (or Scandinavian) jazz singer ever.
I wish I had time to write a lengthy comment about this mix, but all I wish to say right now is that the closing song, Sakta vi gs genom stan, is a beautiful tribute to Stockholm. It is a cover of Nat King Coles Walking My Baby Back Home. In the news papers today, most people who were stopped randomly in the streets yesterday and asked what song they will remember Monica by mentioned this song. Those of you who enjoy Koop (Swedish duo Magnus Zingmark's and Oscar Simonsson's laid back electronic jazz experiments) recognize Monica Zetterlund's voice, as parts of her 1960s recordings that have reused.
Feedback:
fantastic woman. a real loss, great voice, great mix
Good tribute. I don't know much about Mrs. Z, but what I've heard I've liked. Might you be interested in a trade?
This looks like a good tribute. I had heard of Monica's death yesterday.
