Comment:

I put this together before leaving for a trip to France, thinking that making it & listening to it might possibly improve my feeble French. Well, it didn't do that, but it's still fun to listen to.
These are all French popular songs from the late 30's to the mid-50's - with a hiatus obviously in the 40's. Edith Piaf & Charles Trenet are over-represented, mostly 'cause I just don't know that many French singers of that time - but also because they're so great.

Merci! But one question: has that woman in the photo thrown a spear through that poor accordianist's leg?

Salut Joey, welcome back! Great looking mix. I used one of the Edith Piaf songs in my last mix, too. She really had a powerful voice that cuts right through to the heart.

Oui Oui! Two outstanding mixes JDV. So did you make some extra spending money playing the accordian on street corners?

Lovely. I recently found a couple of CDs in a charity shop which cover the same period (and many of the picks). They've been part of my Sunday morning listening for the past couple of weeks. Expect to find Boum on an onomatopoeic mix I'm presently working on

I'd love to hear this. I'm not optimistic that it'll improve my French either, though. I took two French classes and retained almost none of it.

But, can't lie...don't know very very little...which is quite nice.
