Comment:

This was probably the toughest mix request I've ever done. My dear friend Shannan is due to deliver her first baby later this week, and she requested (months ago!) that I compile something for her to listen to while in labor. I was worried that if I stacked too many "upbeat" songs together, that she'd just end up hating them all, but I didn't want to depress her either. So the trick was to find soothing songs by artists she was mostly familiar with, which had a somewhat upbeat feel, and every few tracks or so, it had to get a little lively to help out with the whole "pushing" thing. I struggled with the track listing for a while, but I think I finally got the perfect ordering. I hope for her sake she won't need to hear it more than once or twice before the baby is born. Thanks to Sport! for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs track.

Lovely--not just for its intended purpose but on its own merits, as well. Again, lovely.

Very nice. Love the Brazilian stuff & Eno in particular. Probably good for those resting periods between pushing - once she starts going, I don't think she'll be listening to much music at all!

I talked to her this morning, she's still "gestating" as she put it. She claims the baby was waiting patiently for the mix to arrive, she got it this morning, so now it's just a matter of time.
