Comment:

The first in this series was The Golden Hour Of Swedish Pop.Not knowing I was going to follow it with further country compilations it lacks the epithet Earglobe Part 1 but in effect that's what it is.I have a special affection for New Zealand as it is my father's homeland.Musically I think it has produced some singular talents, notably the Chills for immaculate pop gorgeousness and the Tall Dwarfs for venturing into every musical garden and stealing the best flowers. If one band could be cited as influencing the Elephant 6 collective it would be them.Delving back into the sixties the Bluestars wrote Social End Product,New Zealand's answer to the Who's My Generation. It boils with bile,a real sheepscarer.Matching anything the Crystals did is the Rebel Kind which I've heard tell is the only decent thing the Chicks recorded. So be it,just savour it and tell Spector to take out the trash. And while we're on the subject of the gunslinging producer I'm sure he must have had spectral involvement with the Brunnettes. It's pure Spector.I know this isn't an all embracing selection, there's no Verlaines or Jean-Paul Sartre Experience and very little modern stuff bar the Brunettes, but it has several tracks I think every Kiwi would insist on being in this all too short mix.

For such a tiny little country, they sure produce some magical stuff. Must be something in the water. Of course all of NZ's finest are represented here -- the Chills, LBGP, the Bats, Tall Dwarfs, Gremlins, the Clean, etc. Can't wait to hear the Chicks song! ;)
