Comment:
Bobby Graham? Never heard of him. After stumbling upon his web site, I learned that Bobby Graham was the premier session drummer in London during the Beat Boom. A quick look at his partial discography revealed plenty of Beat, Pop, and Freakbeat favorites. He spent time in The Outlaws, Joe Meek's house band, then joined the session circuit along with Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan. Page's fingerprints are all over this mix, with many of the tracks coming from the two-volume Session Man CDs.
I can't really comment on Bobby Graham's drumming technique, except to say that it seems to fit the bill, whether it's backing a folky Peter & Gordon ditty or a Kinks rave-up. (No apologies for including three Kinks tracks!) What I find interesting is that he played with such a diverse cast of musicians in such a short period of time.
Bobby Graham? Yeah, he's great!
Feedback:
Super-duper! Yep, Bobby was an awesome drummer and he played on some really great tunes. (Those Jimmy Page discs are pretty great, aren't they?) I was surprised to learn that he played on some Kinks sides, especially since Mick Avory was such a great drummer himself. Great tribute!
Damn Fine!
Fantastic. Care to trade for this one, Lenny?
Top drawer stuff as always Lennart. Never knew his name but apparently I've been a fan of his drumming for quite a while. I love the John Leyton and Peter & Gordon picks especially. And any excuse to throw Kinky Boots on is OK with me.
Great stuff.
Looks pretty rad to moi.
Very nice!
Really impressive: I really love the latter half of the mix. And a great idea for all those fans-who-never-knew-it.
This would be a great mix even without the historical/musicological info.
I plead guilty to not knowing who this guy is, but I've certainly heard is drumming, since I'm familiar with quite a few of these songs. He certainly drummed up some support from plenty of reknowned artists. Fine cover as well.
Excellent!
very educational:)
hmm, is it possible I've enjoyed so many of these songs & never even noticed the drummer??! I guess I'd have to hear this CD to really do him justice -- is there any chance that could be arranged? (I'm talking trade here . . .) (. . . alhtough, come to think of it I already owe mfooz quite a debt . . . )
Sheesh! Don't know how I missed this... It looks excellent!
Saaf..could I perhaps entice you to send me this righteous thang..? (slurp!)
