Comment:

For the hell of it. Thanks again to Jana for those Hold Steady discs--they're really growing on me. Btw, the Brian Jonestown Massacre are my reason for living at the moment. I have listened to next to no one else for the past two and a half weeks. Buy "Give It Back," "Take It from the Man!" and "Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request" immediately (provided, of course, that you don't already own them)--or preview them at www.brianjonestownmassacre.com . They are definitely worth your time. I understand that I'm a relative latecomer to the band, but somehow I've become convinced that they are genetically engineered to be my favorite modern band. Title from the Jeff Beck Group/"Showboat" favorite. [Revised on the morning of 7/12/05. It never fails--I post a mix right before I go to bed (usually just after finishing it) and I rethink it in the morning, adding/subtracting a song or two. Then I log on to the site to update the mix and someone has commented favorably on the very thing that I've just changed. In this case, the Pavement/Lydia Lunch transition noted below was "Haunt You Down" to "Spooky"; at this point, however, it goes from Pavement to Style Council. Thanks for the comment, though. I liked the transition, as well, but the Lydia song was just kind of getting on my nerves.]

The title made me think this was going to be bleak, but no! Poodle Rockin & Rock Lobster, this looks kind of -- dare I say it? -- fun!

LOVE the Go4, Bill Fay, Pavement and Cardinal tracks. I can never get enough of the Talking Heads track.

I've been trying to get my mitts on the Satanic Majesties' Second Request for some time. The search continues.

I also hear there's a retrospective available.

Get off the juice of the devil. There are Kings coming and there was a shining star. Holy people are waiting for the Good King. You best forget about the acid punch and get on your knees and hope the Creator reveals himself to you before it is too late. I can just imagine what evil garbage you listen to and read. May he have mercy on you. Everyone is waiting for something. The evil people are waiting for the evil king. Revelation 13 and the holy people are waiting for the good king. Revelataion 21 and the rest don't even know what is going on. You better forget about drinking the acid punch and get on your knees and hope the Creator of the Universe reverals himself to you before it is too late! Find out what Tetragrammaton is and you might be on your way.

Sorry, Rob, but whatever greatness may be found in this mix (and there is much) is dramatically overshadowed by that last comment. Looks like you've made a new friend!

Looks fun, Rob.
Last I checked, Servent of the Most High, the correct spelling of your name was "ServAnt of the Most High" - b/t/w, I sure hope the Creator of the Universe "reverals" himself to all of us someday - I've got a few questions for the guy.

NOT what "servent" said. This is just plain old good mixin'! TBJM has floated around on the margins of my universe for a while but I've never really investigated 'em. I'm taking this excellent mix as my cue to do so.

Cool - I'll definitely take on board your Brian Jonestown Massacre recommendations - I was just talking about them with my brother yesterday and would like to hear more. Anyway! Honestly, I think this is already one of my favourites of your mixes. There's so much stuff on it which I love - GoF, Gorky's, Donovan, Talking Heads, Graham Coxon, Ray Charles, Lloyd Cole, Pavement...and it's good to see someone else appreciates The Style Council :) Also, "Servent" is a very scary person.

I agree with you completely about Brian Jonestown Massacre. Anton Newcombe sound like a very difficult person but the music has been consistently great. And lots of other great picks in your mix, too.

By the way, not to give too much attention to "Servent of Most High" who's probably someone just having a giggle, but I think it's particularly ironic that he equates "drinking the acid punch" with the "evil garbage you listen to and read". If he's referring to the original Jonestown massacre, where they committed mass suicide by drinking grape Flavor Aid laced with Valium and cyanide (I looked it up in the Wikipedia), he's got it completely backwards. It was religious zealots who drank the "acid punch".
