Heavy Meta
Comment:
All songs that refer to themselves. I tried to stick mainly to songs with multiple self-references (hence, leaving out things like XTC's "I'm the Man Who Murdered Love", where the self-reference is just Andy Partridge only-marginally-intelligently shouting "It's the middle of the song!" in the middle of the song), although I did end up including a few songs whose meta nature was briefer (mainly for mix flow reasons). I discovered the Wikipedia list while I was halfway through this mix, and it was most helpful; eventually I'll get around to adding the songs that don't appear there. (There aren't many.)Feedback:
Thanks for the Vestibules link. They're CBC favourites of mine.
"You probably think this song is about you . . ."
& then, (I hate to even mention it, but, since you've already allowed Elton John onto the premises ). . "Your Song"?

This is a very clever mix, Mr. Lunch Boy. I'm glad you didn't include that Elton John song that JDV mentioned -- one EJ song per mix is plenty.
Great concept, interestingly executed. That Wikipedia listing is a lot of fun, too (though they were a bit overinclusive methinks). I love that you included the Garry Shandling theme, which pretty much perfectly encapsulates the concept. Naturally, you've got me pounding my brain thinking of other examples. Maybe the Undertones' "More Songs About Chocolate & Girls"?
