Excerpt from Weird New JerseyTHE METEDECONK UFO
I was a young teen, my brother and cousin and I were sitting in the yard just talking. We were very excited because it was the night Jimi Hendrix was going to appear on the Johnny Carson Show. (We were too young and were not experimenting with drugs at this age, so you can write that off.) All of a sudden, this orange globe, about basketball size, came over a big pine tree from the eastern sky on a slow downward curve. When it got about 10 feet away from us (10 feet high and 10 feet distant) it stopped. It had a rhythmic pulse in light and color. It would go bright yellow and then dull orange. It had a very faint sound or hum. We all just sat in our chairs and stared at it for about a minute. Then it corkscrewed up and to the southwest, slowly at first and then very fast.
You would think we'd all get up and go, "Did you see that?" or maybe run inside and tell our parents. Instead, we sat there like we saw it every day. We never spoke of it, not even at the moment. We went inside and watched Jimi Hendrix blow out a Marshall amp on TV. I never talked to my cousin again; she lives in North Carolina and we drifted apart.
Once I got to my late 30's I finally asked my older brother, "Do you remember that orange thing in the yard?" He said back to me, "I think it had a shade of green also." I said, "What was it?" He said, "I don't know." And to this day we don't speak of it, and to tell you the truth, I had a hard time writing it down. It was weird. It was on the Metedeconk in NJ. Thanks for listening,
-- Steve P.
