When The Levee Breaks
Comment:
Yes. I am *still* going to hell.
Feedback:
great idea! and a good mix! i like it.
I would say you beat me to it, but you did a better job than I would have. The last song is absolutely priceless! Other contenders: Dylan's "Hurricane," Missy Elliott's "The Rain," Bonnie Prince Billy's "Raining in Darling" and the title track from "Singin' in the Rain."
Nice timely mix, but where's REO Spudwagon's "Riding the Storm Out"?
Well done! I am cribbing some songs for my own mix. Also, excellent picture.
Dammit, you beat me to this! I was going to wrap up with Katrina and the Waves too (in fact, that was my proposed title). It would have been centered around the Tragically Hip's "New Orleans is Sinking", however.
Fine mix - and although its not a favourite song of mine its great to finish on an upbeat and positive note...Great response to an awful tradgedy!
I would have added The Lakes Of Ponchitrain - several versions available but the Be Good Tanyas moody and solemn cover would do the theme justice...

Another track might be Randy Newman's "Louisiana 1927" which refers to reaction to the great flood of 1927 (lyrics here http://www.lyricsdepot.com/randy_newman/louisiana-1927.html ) Newman sings about President Coolidge's visit to the disaster area - a weak leader with very little to offer to the dispossesed... How Precient!
Okay, thats it, I have now stopped identifying additions to your excellent mix - I am off to make one of my own!

This excellent mix has been added to the Exhibit "Where You Got Those Shoes: New Orleans." Check it out at the AOTM Exhibits page.
