Potato Head Blues
Comment:
Can you dig it?
They're red, they're white, they're brown,
They get that way under ground . . .
Part of the blame for this mess of spuds has to be assigned to
Sean Lally ,
who sent me my two new favorite Potato Songs of all time
(the Frampton Bros. "Potato Song", and the Gollum & Sam cut-up "Taters")
& thus pushed this collection over the edge into existence.
And then Dead Man sent me the Shadows of Knight "potato Chip" & from Jenergy
I was turned on to Malcolm Daglish's charming "Little Potato", so you can see this just had to happen.
In some ways this set is even more unlikely than my
Bananas mix,
& of course it doesn't flow together musically, but
if you don't mind rock, r&B, country & folk all mixed together, it could be a fun listen.
As Samuel Johnson might have said,
"It is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well;
but you are surprised to find it done at all."

Feedback:
So wonderful and hilarious. Dan Quayle would love it! Also the best mix title ever. By the way, have you tried purple potatoes?
Truly inspiring! But where is the title track? One of Woody Allen's favorite songs, Louis Armstrong's version of Potato Head Blues?
Too true, Louis Armstrong's "Potato Head Blues" is one of those tunes that make you thankful you put your ears on -- BUT, it's an instrumental, & my personal rule for theme mixes is to allow only songs with lyrics substantially about the theme subject -- otherwise it's too easy to be just looking at titles -
very nice, JdV!
Super awesome! Who'da thunkit that the humble potato would make for such great music. Makes me yearn for some potato soup.... Glad you made something out of those tracks - recording the Potato song is one of the highlights of my musical "career".
Very, very cool. When we trade again (not anytime soon, I'm afraid, due to general craziness and burner malfunctions in my world), I'd like this one.
Pretty much any reference to Mr. Potato Head makes me smile. Don't know why...it just does.
This is awesome, Jeff, and I'm glad Malcolm has found a good home. I love that Ella Mae cut as well. As always, anytime you want to trade, I'm up for it.
Fantastically cool - and I don't mind all those genres mashed together at all! Potatoes are great, and so is this mix. Love the Nat King Cole.
First bananas, now potatoes - go on, do a cucumber mix - I challenge you!
BTW, I'm still dreaming about that sandwich mix :)
Nothing half-baked about these spuds... Looks like another fun theme.
1 potato, 2 potato, 3 potato, 4... Of course I am much too young to remember those 2 Dee Dee Sharp tracks, but I could probably could do the mashed potatoes if the right music were playing - like this mix.
This is way impressive.
And probably really fun to listen to!
And probably really fun to listen to!
This is awesome! I loved to hear it!
Looks great! (My efforts to come up with a potato related pun came up empty). BTW, your mixes were mailed yesterday.
Outstanding, the ultimate mash-up :)
lotta fun on this one!!!!!!!!!
...I think, (which may be my downfall), the B-52s Private Idaho woulda' fit the theme......on the ground like a wild potatOOO! Ah well, I only have eyes for you....reticulated.
MAN, you must have a big music collection...though it seems you got some others to 'chip in'? :-0
