Comment:
This mix goes out to g.a.b. l@b.A four disc set which blends ambient, ambient dub, ambient techno, experimental ambient, minimalistic classical and modern composition. All of which fall well within the instrumental category.
One will note the prevalence of tracks from Alvin Lucier's I Am Sitting In A Room, noted as "Intervals". Here's a little background: considered "one of the masterpieces of 20th century music merging processed music, minimalism, and self-reference into an utterly amazing and ultimately beautiful work". To create this work the composer sits and describes what will happen, and then it happens. Lucier tapes these instructions (about 80 seconds worth), tapes it, replays that tape into the room, tapes that, plays the second tape into the room, etc., and so on. After each repetition, the recording erodes further and further to the point (around interval 12) the listener can barely make out the words. But, as the words disappear, other tones seem to appear. By the midway point, one is left with a musical throb marked by only the rhythm left from the original recording.
I thought by including 8 intervals throughout the rest of the pieces, one can experience the transition from words to ambience caused by one's surroundings. Something I felt would be quite fitting for this particular mix.
I hope you enjoy.

Feedback:
Nicely done, and meticulously crafted by the looks of it. I know quite a few of these artists, surprisingly. +2 for Fennesz and Max Richter!
Holy shit. This looks amazing. And I don't even know most of it.
Whoa! This looks fantastic Chris! It will yoke familiarity with discovery.
Excellent tracks/artists, layout & execution. Thank you: I...can...hardly...wait..!

I agree with Sally and I'm sure Gene will dig this!
This looks very very impressive. I know only a few names, but what I know makes me want to hear the rest. I'd love to trade for this.
When I saw your title I thought for sure there will be some Philip Glass in here - and there it is. This is really cutting edge - you must live in New Jersey or something.
Looks absolutely wonderful, and right up g.a.b.'s street.
Three letters: w o w. Actually they should be capitalized and embellished: W O W!!!
Interesting. Lovely cover art.
this looks quite interesting.......
Like Media Vixen: Radio Sally says.
I've always wanted to put "I am Sitting in a Room" or "Music for 18 Musicians" in a mix, but the fact that they're each about an hour long has always put a slight crimp in those plans. Very nice inventiveness in getting them on here!
