Comment:

There are streets named after Sarah Vaughan in Amsterdam and in her home town of Newark, but that hardly seems like enough - why aren't there mountains, lakes, oceans, continents named after her?
Ella Fitzgerald called her "the world's greatest singing talent", and who's going to second-guess Ella?

This Sarah sampler is drawn from her early style in the late 40's; later on in the 50's she did more pop than bop, & that's beautiful too, but this is before that, all from 1946-1950. I only regret that nobody captured on tape the night in 1942 when she came out of nowhere into an amateur night contest at Harlem's Apollo Theater, belted out "Body and Soul," and won first prize. A few months later she was playing with Dizzy Gillespie & Charlie Parker, & the rest is history.

I have never heard any music by Sarah Vaughn. But I am a big Ella fan. Looks like I need to look into Miss V.

Whoa! No "Lover Man"!!! (It's your mix, however...) In the meantime, I'd *LOVE* a copy of this, my friend. Please drop me a line and let me know what I can send to you in return.

Incidentally, upon checking out your cover, I realized that there is a substantial likelihood that the "Lover Man" recording I referenced was released AFTER 1950. Sorry...

Aw yeah, this looks phenomenal. That was such a great time for music, one that I'm only recently really getting into, partially thanks to some of your mixes... Best,
Mike
