Comment:

It's not like I've ever been or probably ever will go to a Vegas lounge show,
so I guess I'm making fun here of a genre I don't really know from the inside.
But let's put the blame on fellow mixer
RichW217 ,
(a.k.a.
j&c's dad ),
who sent me a jaw-droppingly fantabulous "Lounge a Go-Go" tape that I used as the skeleton
& central nervous system for this CD.
His tape I think was all from vinyl live takes
of actual lounge shows, whereas for this mix I added a few studio recordings that just
struck me as essentially casino style,
plus a few parody numbers like the "joey & the Marones" track.
In both cases, though, the heart & soul of the mix is the patter & smatter of the
sincerity-oozing performer chatting up the audience (or in the case of Frank Sinatra,
heckling his fans).
In any case, you've been a wonderful audience for this mix - it's been a great privilege
to be here tonight working with all this great talent, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
There's no business like show business!

Great idea and mix. I am going to Vegas at the end of Feb. I don't think I'm gonna go to a lounge show ever in my life also, but great work.

Sold Out! Viva Las Vegas & Viva Joey De Vivre in a new mix with all the sham, wham & schmaltz of a Vegas Show! Standing Room Only. BTW where's the undisputed King Of Vegas, Mr Presley?

Does this mix have a two-drink minimum?

I truly love the look of this! Plus, I am completely down for any mix which has multiple versions of Mack The Knife. It's never actually occurred to me that a Vegas lounge show might be kind of fun to see, but my arm could definitely be twisted now...

I just added this one to my favorites. Without even hearing it I can tell this is absolutely great! I take it the titles in quotes are bits of stage banter, which look ultra-cool.

Once upon a time you didn't have to got to vegas... this stuff was beamed into your living room every sunday night in the 60s. Well, except for maybe the Lou Reed and Blotto.

I'm a sucker for this stuff, some mates of mine used to host some great lounge cabaret nights, this would have been a top set list.

Hi there and thanks for the CD! I love it and I'm happy to have created the inspiration for it. It's funny, but even though I've made dozens of mixes since then (the original was made in 1993, I think), Lounge A Go Go probably remains my all time favorite. And you're right--it's all about the patter.

I have seen two of the Greats live: Wayne Newton at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City and Tom Jones at the dearly departed Valley Forge Music Fair, less than ten miles from where I live. Both were transcendent, of course.

Oh, it's not just the patter. It's the patter and the HUGE horn sections...

You're a packrat o' the Rat Pack..., I'd also dispute Elvis as the "King of Vegas", I think Wayne took over that crown a loooong time ago.Looks like an absolute blast to listen to JdV!
