Comment:

this is a project for my african music & culture class. it's based on classic 80s hip hop mixtapes and is meant to show how hip hop and african music are deeply connected. the turntable replaces the talking drum, the drum machine lays down the beat, the emcee replaces the griot praise singer. hip hop remains tied to its roots through its recycling of old funk and R&B records, themsleves reflecting the rhythms of africa.
