Comment:

The past few days have been pretty fun and interesting for me. On Monday, I received a turntable with built in cd recorder. (I haven't owned a turntable in eons.) I anxiously dug out my old records and singles and started listening and recording them. It brought back wonderful memories of my youth in Boston and all of the bands that grew up here as well. Back then, I used to manage bands and book concerts and was very much part of the Boston music scene. The list you are looking at is part of my collection of Boston Bands, some signed to record labels and others, not. But in the end, this is not so much a fluid mix as it is the reminisces of a middle aged man. (hell, I can't even believe I typed that)

Notes: Hummit was fronted by Phil Gentili who wrote Mama Lied, a local hit. It was later covered in the 90's by Tower of Power. Many of these bands, Orchestra Luna chief among them, had a difficult time conveying their scintillating live shows into solid recordings. Bill Chinnock, from Maine, was as good a live show as you would ever see and brings to mind early Springsteen (not in a Beaver Brown kind of way). His Dime Store Heroes disc is one that is still worth getting your hands on. The Atlantics were every bit as good as the Cars and made one recording. To this day, they are the band that IMHO should have made it big.
Go Red Sox!
