Comment:

yesturday was the winter solstice and it was a beautiful day with a constant rain
so i embarked on the creation of a rainy day/winter solstice mix.
it was originally 5 hours
but i kept shaving it down with a goal of 2 hours
and i finally reached it today (the 22nd.

the mix itself is the evolution of a rain
it starts with a gloominess of skies
then a drizzle
to a rain
to a downpour
then the post rock starts falling to more ambient slower stuff which finally evolves to vocal tracks, that are still slow and droomy enough to fit in with the music. then i conclude it.

i am very pleased with this mix.
i have a few band repeats but i found the tracks necessary.
feedback is appreciated.

****************** FOR THOSE OF YOU DOWNLOADING:
the mix will mostly not be exactly how its intending to sound and flow since i edited each track in itunes by cutting out seconds of applause and silence at the beginning and ends of each track. IT should also be noted that this mix might not sound as ideal or pleasing if youre not listening to it when its raining.

couple of things:way to long, lots of unnecessary songs. Vivaldi does not fit at all. Even though its called winter, it has no place here, it feels completely wrong. All the songs with vocals can go. Needs some change to the order. But, BUT...the first three songs fit together in a way that is extremely rare, and it is a great opening.

are you kidding?!?!

Vivaldi goes great after the Philip Glass song, very similar keys even

ya the songs with vocals COULD go, but they fit in and give the listener a slight break from the instrumental with a lightpick up and evolution out of the storm.

Its about 80 and sunny today in LA, but I'm going to bookmark this for a rainy day... I appreciate the work that went into this. Where are you?

I acquired all the songs on your mix because I figured this would be a trip and a half. I have to concur with the
"sandisoverrated" person. The mix would have been better without the vocal tracks although standing alone they aren't that bad. It's just that when a mix is so instrumental it's probably better off remaining thusly. MOreover, I always feel it's "cheating" when a mix exceeds 80 minutes (the standard CD format). That's what bands use and so should you. Part of the process is making the tough choices necessary to whittle the disc down to size. Right now " The Stars Above " by Sianspheric (a great trippy Canadian band came on in my shuffle. It would sound quite slick on a rain slicked day as well no doubt. Cheers!
