i finish this season's winter mix, january second, 2006. i wake from dreams of tornado alerts and ozone drenched wind to a clap of thunder and pouring, pouring, pouring rain. such a lovely spring day it is, this day i've finished my winter mix.
typical.
every seasonal mix has specific elements, a tiny discipline it keeps so i know that it is a "winter" mix even when the rain pours. winter's elements: radio interference, transmission blips and drones. clanging metal, struck bells. bad recording quality. old recordings. voices not legible, voices far away. voices calling out wordlessly into the wind. wind. vinyl drag. music box piano, slightly out of tune. if you hear a gypsy violin, think "a candle lit against the blustering darkness." you'll notice we've run out of gypsy violins by the 5th track. candles don't last forever, you know.
