Comment:

2-CD set: Absolutely no doubt this is too much of a good thing (unless of course you don't consider it a good thing).

"The Peanut Vendor" (el Manisero) is a catchy little Cuban tune from 1930 or thereabouts which has been covered, sampled, & re-done by countless jazz & pop performers ever since. The hook is so easy & infectious that it turns up all over the place --
if you start listening for it you'll hear it from lots of African bands & lots of jazz musicians, though I doubt there are any rock or punk references. (Prove me wrong!)

Anyway, how this compilation got out of control - my friend Enid told me she had 18 versions of the Peanut Vendor she wanted to mix up with any that I could dig up -- I mentioned this to Nest of Vipers , & she immediately sent me 9 more different versions - & the race was on. This 2-CD set is probably not finished yet - but is already likely more than anyone will ever listen to in a sitting. It might work as tiki bar background music, though. Disc 1 is a roughly chronological assemblage of what I had in my archive, then disc 2 starts out with Enid's demented tiki bar collection, ending up with a powerhouse assortment from Nest of Vipers. And, as if that weren't scary enough -- there's room for more on each disc!

What, there are 49 versions out there of a song I don't even know. This is driving me nuts... Great cover (and I mean the artwork).

i heard a modern day version in a dance club, ran up to the DJ to get the name and artist, and have picked up a few versions over the years, all of them here, but NOT the one i heard that night by an artist long since forgotten. a long-winded way of saying -- way cool. would love to bop to it someday.

Great googly moogly! That's a lotta nuts. I have a perverse curiosity to hear this. If it's JdV, it's GOT to be good.

Well this is getting a berth in "Never Too Much Of A Good Thing" even if I have to kick out Corrinna to do it! Great work, especially Enid (-:

Interestingly, several of the recent additions to NTMOAGT are Latin American imports: this and Perfidia and Perdido. It's a trend.
