Comment:

A compilation of tunes by a favorite underated singer / songwriter, Mr. Chuck Prophet. I first got turned on to him in about 2000 with "The Hurting Business" and it remains my favorite of his discs (it was difficult for me to cut any songs from that album.) I picked up a couple of Green on Red albums but since it is primarily his voice and songwriting (in that order) that I like and neither are really featured on the GoR discs, none of their tunes mafe this comp. He has also often guested on other peoples projects, but primarily as a guitarist, so none of those made it for the same reasons. I chose to sequence it chronologically, which is a bit awkward at the 4/5 transition because he makes a major style change between "Brother Aldo" (1997)and "The Hurting Business" (2000) from alt-country to a more produced rock sound. Not that I'm comparing him to Leonard Cohen, but its kind of like listening to "Songs of Leonard Cohen" and then putting in "I'm Your Man".
This really could have been a two disc set, and I'll probably eventually add a second volume. Last songs cut: "Brother Aldo", "Baton Rouge", "Stargazing Misbegotten Love", "What Can You Tell Me?", "I Bow Down and Pray to Every Woman I See", "That's How Much I Need Your Love", "Ooh, Wee", "Til You Came Along", "Age of Miracles", "Just to See You Smile", "West Memphis Moon", "Solid Gold", "Diamond Jim", "It Won't Be Long" and "La Paloma". Title from "Apology", link if your interested.

Nice collection. He's been putting out some great music for a long time. Single artist mixes are always fun to look at because (hopefully) people will have a different take on a performer. My mix of CP would have a slightly different flavor but they would all taste great.
