Comment:

This is really an Ode to Ken Nordine. I first heard a track called "The Ageing Young Rebel" about 5 years ago and it flipped my head inside and out as to how beat and lyric could fold over itself so precisely. I went out and found more and zipped up the albums Kaleidoscope (DJ Food) and Colors (Ken Nordine) together for my own amusement. This was orginally on mini-disc (the overnight format) and I used to sit on the bus or train just trancing out on it. I've slotted a few more tunes in for this mix , so that it's got more flow. Hope you enjoy. Kata. ***********************************************
Ken Nordine : (born April 13, 1920) is an American voiceover and recording artist best known for his series of Word Jazz albums. His deep, resonant voice has also been featured in many commercial advertisements and movie trailers. One critic wrote that "you may not know Ken Nordine by name or face, but you'll almost certainly recognize his voice."

A smaller mob should know Mr. Nordine for the groundbreaking "Word Jazz" efforts he has released since the 50's. "Word Jazz," a term coined by Nordine, incorporates densely constructed monologues recited in the service of improvisational music. Making its' debut with 1957's Word Jazz, this form of spoken interpretation combines punning, polysyllabic wordplay with smatterings of antiquated lingo. "Word Jazz" is Ken Nordine's lasting contribution to the post-Beat world of sound.
Don't be scared off by too much Ken!! The sound
is delicious...
