Um yeah... I didn't end up using this site again for a while... I got reminded of it when I was talking to Annie. And realized I need to learn her what shoegaze is. Or maybe the only two mixes I have on here are both for her because I have a crush or something. Who knows. I don't like putting more than one song by the same artist, but I assume that's ok when it's a didactic mix.Tracks 01-09 are all examples of the original London shoegaze scene in the early 90s.
Tracks 11-18 are all from members of the burgeoning Japanese neo-shoegaze scene.
My Bloody Valentine is what most people think of as the canonical shoegaze band. Slowdive have a much more space rock sound, but still fall under the umbrella. Lush is what I consider dream pop, which is a more melody-centric subgenre of shoegaze. (Other people's definitions may vary.) Moose are more generic alt rock with some shoegaze influence. (One could say the same about The Smashing Pumpkins, if you really wanted to.) I call Loop "proto-shoegaze" in that they use similar techniques in songwriting as shoegaze bands, but predate the actual scene.
Aarktica is just awesome ambient acoustic and separates the two halves.
Luminous Orange are more traditional shoegaze with guitars that cry in a way that can only be called lovely. Hartfield are more j-dreampop; luscious intertwining guitar and vocal melodies contrasting with drones of noise and powerful riffs. Asobi Seksu is what happens when a Japanese musician moves to America... And finally Condor44 are an indie rock band that shows some shoegaze influence while not necessarily being shoegaze themselves.
This comment is too long.

Feedback:
lush is the highlight for me.
Nothing wrong with that comment, very educational.
