Comment:

110 minutes long. A true labour of love, my most researched album ever. I signed up to a dozen wrestling message boards. What I didn't know I found out from question after question. What I did know but couldn't confirm, I confirmed. And a few things I knew that everyone else seamed to have forgotten (a nice surprise). I updated the Wikipedia site for wrestling music with multiple things that were not on it and that were not on official lists anywhere else. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_in_professional_wrestling ) This album takes the best wrestlers and the best music used for their entrances from the 70s all the way to 1989 and combines it into one solid listening and educating experience. Even non-wrestling fans can enjoy this album, it's alot of fun. The arena pictured below is the Pontiac Silverdome, the setting for THE biggest wrestling event of the 80s, and my all time favorite wrestling event, WrestleMania III. 93,173 fans (real total was about 78,000), still unreal. Savage/Steamboat is still king.
**TRACK BREAKDOWN**
Also sprach Zarathustra - Flair's classic entrance opens the album. What else could?
Eye of the Tiger - Hulk Hogan. The man who put wrestling on the map in the 80s. This is pre-Real American (which was initially for the team of Windham/Rotundo).
Tom Sawyer - Like the song says, Kerry von Erich was a Modern Day Warrior. A true talent and tragic figure. Oh Kerry, if only these changes weren't permanent.
One of These Days - "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces". That's just what The Butcher would do.
Honky Tonk Man - One of the best WWF songs ever written. The Honky Tonk Man is STILL the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time.
Hot Stuff - Eddie Gilbert, another tragic figure. Drug addicted and paranoid. When he died tributes were held world wide.
The Great Gate of Kiev - A rousing classical score. Used by the kings of the WWF, Harley Race and King Haku.
Iron Man - Q:You're a wrestler in the 80s. You hear Iron Man. What happens? A:The Road Warriors run down to ringside and murder you.
Another One Bites the Dust - One of the most memorable songs ever used for a wrestler. The JYD set the south on fire with this.
Warrior Wildfire - A great WWF theme. The Warrior may be a nut, but his music is gold.
Star Wars/Cantina Theme - The McMahon of Japan. Giant Baba still is the most respected and trusted promoter in history. R.I.P.
Free Bird - For The Free Birds, obvious, but still great. This is the 9 minute album version.
Easy Lover - An Easy Lover instrumental was used for WrestleMania I. This is the live version from Serious Hits Live.
Sirius - Side 1 and 2 both open with the wrestlers that had THE feud of the 80s. Ric Flair and Steamboat respictivley. Still amazing.
Real American - Even non-wrestling fans usually know this one. The song that put Hogan over even more.
Girls Just Want to Have Fun - Wendi Richter like Hogan was another major figure during the WWF's Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection.
Man With A Harmonica - Terry Funk + this music = the best thing ever.
Obsession - Since wrestling is an obsession this was a no brainer. Used for SNME.
Sharp Dressed Man - "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin, a great AWA personality.
Pomp & Cirumstance - Macho Man is... a cosmic entity. "Macho Madness surrounds you now!"... Amen.
Demolition - WWFs answer to The Road Warriors. A knock off for sure, Demolition was still fun.
Fight For Your Right - Sting's early theme music. Ah pre-Crow Stinger.
Snake Bit - Great music for Jake Roberts. I want to DDT someone right now!
Holding Out For A Hero - Used for Dusty during Starrcade, and a Sting promo. A fav.
Chase - The pounding 9 minute track from the Midnight Express soundtrack. Used by the team of the same name. Midnight Express forever!
Who's Zoomin' Who - The closing number used for WrestleMania III while the end credits rolled. A perfect song to sum it all up.

I had a brief flirtation with WWF in the Steve Austin, Triple H, Rock & Sock, Big Show etc. period. Most entertaining. I admire the work you've put in to this. Wrestling references aside, this mix is full of cracking tunes. The notes add that extra dimension of interest - one of my favourite aspects of AOTM. Well done.

Good Lord, you must be deranged. At once utterly brilliant and truly horrifying. One for the ages. And, while I can't say I've watched more than 30 seconds of "pro wrestling" in my life, the thought of someone entering the ring to "One Of These Days" made my day.

This is awesome. I've been a fan of wrestling since mid 80's. I continue to watch. This would bring out the mark in me if I were to hear it. Was it difficult to track these tunes down? I'd love to hear the Midnight Express song again. That Sting song wasn't used in his early NWA/WCW day was it?

This is awesome! I have to admit that during the 80's I could tell you who was coming to the ring by the music playing. At one point I could watch 8 hours of consecutive WWF on Saturday afternoon. The early moments documented here were the highlight. I muched preferred it when wrestling was cartoony as opposed to bad soap operetic.

This is absolutely fantastic and should be mix of the week! My brother and I were so into wrestling in the 80s. I loved the Junkyard Dog, the Iron Sheik, and Rowdy Roddy Piper.

*tips the hat to Orchid* Wrestling as a soap opera is brutal. Over blown Shakspearian can work, but soap opera just hurts my head. The Sting music was from his 86/87 days in UWF. As far as tracking down the tunes, I had to get the Midnight Express soundtrack off of ebay (worth the grand total of $7). The actual WWF tracks are from Anthology and the very rare and expensive Piledriver cd (bought off ebay before its price sky rocketed). And the classical stuff was tough, not to get, but to get the right one... And yes, I'm slightly deranged, and I would love to come to the ring ith "One of These Days" playing.

Thank you Mr. Z. I tried to also make the album like a wrestling match. Starting off big, then getting and keeping a steady pace, then a big finish. I have gathered a bunch of material for Wrestling: The Music of the 90s. But putting that together won't be for a while. (Pluggin myself cause I can) Look for Video Game Masterpieces Vol. 5 very soon. It will be all Super Nintendo music (minus 2 tracks). I'm proud to say it will offer the most comprehensive Zelda: A Link to the Past experience you could possibly have. ALTTP music drawn from 4 sources.

P.S.
No Classy Fred Blassie? My little sister was a wrestling fan, and when she went to the former Niagara Falls Convention Center to see a match, Roddy Piper hit on my mom outside the washroom while signing a frisbee!
