Comment:

I was recompiling Vol. 1 from 2001 when I realized I had plenty more for a second go round. Much of this (and the first one) is from a five volume bootleg compilation popular among Waits fans called "Tales From The Underground"

1) Remake of a Kerouac song on `Jack Kerouac reads On the Road'
2) A brilliant cover from "Spirit of the Century"
3) From the "Foreign Affairs" sessions
4) Waits cover on "American Recordings"
5) Odd spoken word duet with Jerry Garcia playing background guitar on Nordine's "Devout Catalyst"
6) Taken from the compilation `Orbitones, Spoon Harps & Bellowphones' 1999
Tom Waits: Vocals, washing machine, squeaky door, and sewing machine
7) Story and song from Tom's "Storytellers" special.
8) From 'Girl at Her Volcano'
9) A Guy Clark tune done on Elliott's "Friends of Mine"
10) From the New Music group's "Helium"
11) Sung as an a cappella duet while paddling a canoe on Lurie's bizarre show "Fishing with John"
12) Duet of the Nan O'Byrne song on "Homeplate"
13) From the 'Foreign Affairs' sessions
14) From the 'Small Change' sessions
15) From Hammond's all-Waits cover album "Wicked Grin"
16) By far the most disturbing song on 'Stay Awake : Various Interpretations of Music from
Vintage Disney Films'
17) From a Bruce Springsteen concert at LA Sports Arena on August 24, 1981
18) From "Live at the World Cafe Vol. 7"
19) A brilliant extended live version even stranger than the original, from Dublin in March 1981.

Boy, I'd love to hear the Ken Nordine. Tom Waits must have the best friends in the world. This is great. Kinda like if Tom Waits had a variety program on the tube.

My collection is woefully short of Waits' stuff, which is kinda strange cos I think he's the bizz. Guess I spent too much time in shared accommodation with friends who were Waits die hards, therefore I never needed to buy his albums to listen to em. Guess I'm paying the price now! I feel a shopping expedition is on the horizon inspired by this mix.

Really, really knocking-socks-off great. Like FC, I have a paltry amount of Waits stuff and need to rectify that quite urgently. I've never heard any of the Disney versions, though - now THAT would be something. Very well done!

Very nice, I didn't realize Down There by the Train was a Waits song, I thought it was Jimmie Rodgers!

Anyway, looks like a perfect Waits introduction, myself, I am a neophyte Waits fan, but always willing to learn.
