Can you get there from Zamfir?
Comment:
Backstory: In 1989 I got my first CD player and was checking out of a music store in Greenwich, Connecticut when I spotted, in the discount basket, "The Best of Zamfir" for $5. I was a little high so I purchased it. Last weekend I pulled it out of the cellophane and listened to it for the first time (at about the same time I bought a self-hypnosis tape on Overcoming Procrastination but have not gotten around to listening to it yet...I swear this to be true!) It really wasn't too bad, although it was tough to listen to the whole disc because the songs sounded too much alike. Since I have been enjoying putting together mixes so much lately, I decided to see if I could put together a listenable mix starting with a Zamfir tune. I chose to go with all instrumentals and chose "Peaches En Regalia" as my end point. This turned out surprisingly well.Feedback:
Interesting development. Well done.
Um, I don't know what to say. Zamfir NOT TOO BAD? This goes on to the eever-grwoing pile of THE WORST MUSIC THAT EVER DISGRACED HUMAN EARS, and believe me, I know what I'm talking about, as that guy was beeeg in Joymoney in the 70s and 80s. Jeez, I don't even dare remember. ;) Anyways, the road you're taking AFTER that atrocious opener makes for an interesting, not to say arresting development indeed. Love to see Monk and Harpo here.
Liking 2,5,6,8 & 11.
Who could conceive of Zamfir being the well-spring for such an excellent musical gathering? Why, that'll be Mark Petruccelli. Well done, Sir.
a dessert of 'Peaches' never fails to satisfy. Eclectic, this, IS
It certainly looks like an interesting journey. Nice work.
Can't speak to the opening track but the rest of this excellent. Been really enjoying the Dirty Three, lately.
Some wonderful picks here. Nice to see Irakere.
Running the gamut from Z to Z, eh?
I don't know from Zamfir & the only Harpo bits I know are his movie-killing interludes, but other than that this looks real good to me - -

Just "a little high" ;-? The rest of this looks just great. And you know what, ultamitely, it doesn't matter how you get to "Peaches En Regalia" as long as you get there.
Wow, this looks very cool indeed. Like Mr. Gnome down there I've very much been enjoying Dirty Three of late, so it's nice to see them included here. I love the middle jazz section!
I love this.
The story is funny. And I bet this mix did turn out better than intended. Instrumental mixes are always fun to hang onto because the opportunity for going over them later with soundbites is present. Maybe 16 years from now, this will be MOTW.
I like it!
I totally disagree with my friend from Joymoney - Zamfir's Picnic At Hanging Rock tracks are superb and amongst my faves..good lookin' mix!
This looks pretty great, Mark. I love your closer, as well as the Dirty Three, Chet Baker, Lounge Lizards, Monk & Mulligan picks.
Great story . . . sorry I've only just got around to commenting on this mix . . .
