Comment:

110 minutes long. "To make a mix tape from scratch, you must first invent the universe." "Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people." "The Cosmos is all that is, or ever was, or ever will be." Gustav Holst's Planets score is presented here in an elongated form. Basically think of it as Major Tom's/2001 Bowman's trip around the cosmos. All of the Planets music I used is by Isao Tomita (Jupiter is by Zubin Mehta, I think the greatest orchestral version is still by him). Isao Tomita's The Planets (1976) is still one of the best electronic albums ever made. If you do not know of Tomita (god help you) please check out these 2 very important links. http://www.isaotomita.net/recordings.html This has great info on the man, along with great album pictures. The Tomita on my Planets album is from The Planets, Kosmos, and The Bermuda Triangle. All are album tracks, with Venus and Mercury only being slightly edited. Also The Sea Named "Solaris" was used on Carl Sagans 1980 TV masterpiece, "Cosmos". Vangelis was also used heavily on "Cosmos" but the tracks here did not appear on it, I almost used Alpha but Spiral just worked better for this album. Also, as I understand it, an albedo is the reflecting power of a non-luminous body. A perfect albedo is 100%, earth's is 39% or 0.39. http://www.isaotomita.com/# The official japanese Tomita site. With music samples from every album!! Just click enter, then on the bottom of the new page double click on discography. Highlight an album, click, wait, then if there is a yellow speaker on the page that pops up you can click on that and listen to 1 minute samples of every song on that album! Please, if you have never heard stuff from the man, I can't implore you enough to do this. The 3 Bowie links are for videos, the Space Oddity video is a rare version you might not have seen (done on the Ashes to Ashes set). The link for Rocket Man is to something uh, interesting, done by a very high or confused William Shatner. http://youtube.com/watch?v=gdLxdTjGYac&search=space%20bowie Space Oddity http://youtube.com/watch?v=p79JKclG-oc&search=moonage%20daydream Moonage Daydream http://youtube.com/watch?v=r44OFO-MNPo&search=bowie%20ashes%20to%20ashes Ashes to Ashes http://youtube.com/watch?v=0aDB91v8Q9Y&search=rocket%20man%20shatner William Shatner, insaneI wish I could provide a way to actually here this album, it flows so well. Now back to my space capsule, the little green wheels are coming for me again, so many, billions and billions...

Very cool and albedinous. I did something similar for a 5th grade class I was teaching, but using an electronic version of The Planets probably would have grabbed their attention much better. Well, there's always next time!
