Comment:
With the exception of the White Stripes song, this mix could have been made in the mid-nineties, but it had to wait until now to properly ferment. I debated classifying this as "Indie Rock", but stuck with my standard "Mixed Genre" instead. A fuzzed out trip that builds tension before entering into the ether, ending, appropriately with "Shine On Sweet Jesus." The title is from the 1966 Alan Bates film, which I've kept in my head for a while for title usage and comes in the wake of a long and fun evening of playing cards with my in-laws (a never ending game of six-handed 500). Chock full of bands with Louisville connections (I'm such a homer). This mix emerged from the primordial ooze of close to 30 songs which I had to painstakingly pare down to a manageable 78:08. Notably falling under the ax were Sonic Youth, Sugar, JSBX, and Spacemen 3 (though I did maintain the Spiritualized/Spectrum children of said Spacemen). With some it was a question of where they would fit, with others, it was a question of whether I could use them on another mix in the future. Yes, I know I used "Smiles" a few mixes back, but this is heading for a different audience and it fits in quite differently here. Mesh 87.
Feedback:
Impressive, to say the least. Hope the acts that got the axe get a second chance.
