Comment:
A mix roughly fifteen years in the making....This is my one hundredth mix using the "Mesh" moniker, and its been quite a wild ride.I've made mixes since I was in high school and all through college, but started keeping track of them my last year at the University of Kentucky, picking the name "Mesh" because of what I thought was the title of a New Order song (a mistake detailed elsewhere). The first fifty Mesh mixes took less than four years to complete, you can do the math for the rest.... In the last fifteen years I have experienced a lot: heartbreak, finishing college, searching for meaning in life, some recreational drug use, falling in love, losing my Dad, having kids, taking up running, and making mix tapes and CD's to attempt to document the whole thing. And I'd have to say, life is pretty good. And now about the songs: I'll be the first to admit that my musical anorak doesn't fit nearly as well as it used to, and although I'm able to listen to some new music (that I hear mostly about through AOTM), I'm still pretty dependent on my aging CD collection. Credit for most of the "newer" songs here has to go to the various mixes I've spotted around here that have piqued my curiosity towards some bands I'd otherwise be oblivious to. Some of the "older" songs I've wanted to use for a while, others just fit. The Nelson Riddle track is from the soundtrack to the 60's Batman series and a fun little number. "Up The Junction" is one of the greatest pop songs. Ever.Yes, this is Mesh 100. Whew!
Feedback:
Many congrats on reaching 100! And doing it with such style. This is great. Love the Blur opener, shame it was only ever tucked away on a b-side. And who can't love 'Up The Junction'? Other highlights.. that 3-10 run. Lily's Smile, Kinky Boots, everything really...
i don't think there are really any words that can describe this, in both sentiment & the music - every track is a corker, but my favorites are the camera obscura, morrissey, B&S, kinks, lily allen, smiths & beatles - but i'm also quite fond of the arctic monkeys, the who, the cure, blur, the jam...ah, there i've gone & named half the mix. i guess that just goes to show what a wonderful mix this is...
What are we to assume about the title of your 100th mix as it relates to your current situation? As you said, "life is pretty good." Looking over the tracks here, I'd say this mix is pretty darn good as well.
Actually, I don't really drink much anymore, but an occasional T&T can still quench that thirst....
Very twee and very good.
100 mixes? That is quite a milestone. Congratulations! Too much great stuff here to even mention, but let's start with Squeeze and Lily Allen.
Ahh, the mix as a quasi-autobiographical sketch of the artist as a [still] relatively young man...despite the mix making count hitting the century mark! Congratulations, Patrick, this looks terrific!
Thanks, Gene. It's always nice to be referred to as "young," but the rapidly spreading grey hair tells another story....
Congrats on the milestone and kudos for the mix. Love the 9-12 run and the closing pair especially
Too wonderful. Another addition to my must-hear list.
I love this mix! I was just listening to "Holy flypaper" yesterday!
Marvelous.
Many many favorites, the Blur, Who, XTC, basically the whole list.
