STRANGELY EMPTY VIII: THIS ONE HOUR MIX HAS 27 MINUTES: The Show No One Came To
Comment:
If I am to be completely honest here; this mix is actually Strangely Empty VIII. This collection was conceived and mixed on 08 MAY 2006. The subtitle: The Show That No One Came To is from Janis Ian's Last Comeback which appears as track 06. Originally intended to be my "swan song" mix I received a lot of support from the AoTMixers at a very low period in my life. I re-discovered music as a passion and developed a thicker skin. I have journeyed into the new world of collaborations and tributes and have become excited about music, AoTM, life and everything again. Look at me, I am rambling like a new scientologist convert. Damn you, Gene Roddenberry L. Ron Hubbard. Note: DJ Karen Adams is not a Scientologist, if that was not obvious, but is merely taking a jab at the spaceship religion. Sorry to confuse the easily confused. Most respect and shouts to: sammyg123,Rob Conroy,Mixxer,Little Spencer Boys, musicgnome,Air Raid,blasikin,Curtis_Burns,Barrydali,Nomates,valis,French Connection,Slack-a-gogo,Mark Petruccelli,lo-fi jr,SwankQueen,April 20,The Misfit, gobi, joey de vivre,www.jonpoi.org and the entire AoTM Unit!
Feedback:
DJK - thanks for all the flava you add to the AOTM board! Now, a serious question: some pro DJs like yourself similarly show a copyright as you have. As you had nothing to do with the creation of the original music, are you suggesting you have legal rights because of how you've sequenced someone else's work?
SR - I have seen and enjoyed your AOTM dubmissions and it is clear that I have not cornered the market on flava but I do thank you.
Some DJs remix to earn that "mark" however, oft times "All rights reserved" is an empty branding to prevent recordshops and flea marketers from cheating the mixtape DJ from his/her "cut". Most times "Promo Use Only" or "DEMO COPY - Not For Resale" was used. The thought was that it was cheaper and less time consuming to use what was given instead of the aggravation of "bootlegging the bootleg". I do not hold legal rights to any of the original compositions posted herein nor would I want to give that impression. My reasons are to (1) express a subtle commentary on the mixtape DJ/record company relationship, (2) give a nod to those who hold rights as this mixtape contains several separate copyrights. Each song was granted composition right, performer's right and sound recording right (given to producers for format reproductions).[Grammatically, I suppose it should read: "All rights retained" not reserved] and (3) set up, as a parody, the next mixtape.

I appreciate the thoughtful reply. You understand and honor the original composer's rights appreciably more than some to whom I've posed that question.
Snazzy....
Righteous.
Great Janis Ian track. Glad to see you rediscovering the joy.
SR - I am a composer and producer as well as mix DJ so I guess I have a different perspective.
Fine one hear. Music is the healer and friends are the best medicine. Mix on....
This site would be less-interesting without the presence of DJ K. Very. Thick skin is a necessity 'round here, too....helps to deal with the thick-headed, and the two-headed...then there's that blasted "hydra" as well. Glad you've been here and, it seems, will continue to be the force we reckon with.
Nomates: Thanks for signing in with a comment here. Interestingly, it was one of your mixes I listened to on repeat at this time. Can anyone guess which mix before clicking the link?
Dig!
What??? Low period? I couldn't tell from your mixes (which I'd have commented on many more of, if my computer didn't take forever to load the graphics, which are great, btw). Keep rockin' the spot, grrrl!
You rock my world DJ Karen Adams! Keep 'em coming 'cause I'd never dance if it weren't for your mixes.
Preach on.
I'm not sure that I want to see Curtis dancing, but I think you should keep posting. ;-) Nice mix. Thanks for the props.
I'm attending this show as I type. It's Flamin' Groovie. Nice work DJK.
Thank you Karen. I guessed incorrectly. So much for my smug, know-it-all attitude. However, you've cheered me up no end.
